The Pioneers(14-8) host the Parkway Central Colts(17-5) in a Suburban Conference test Tuesday night at Kirkwood High School.  The Pioneers and Colts, each members of Class 5, District 4 meet in a key game that could determine district seeding on Saturday.


Parkway Central has defeated Kirkwood in their past 6 meetings, and has earned victory in 6 of their past 10 contests.  In a series of streaks, Kirkwood won nine straight games between 2005 and 2012 prior to the Colts streak which dates back 6 years.


The Colts enter with a 6-game winning streak, peaking at just the right time.  The Pioneers hope to use the last two weeks of the regular season to right their ship.  After an 8-2 start to the season, the Pioneers have put together a 6-6 mark since then struggling to gain momentum.


6-foot-6 inch junior Devion Harris leads the Colts averaging 17.5 points per contest.  Jet quick guards Jayden Littlejohn averages 13, Mello Ball adds 11 points per contest.


The Colts average 56 points per game on defense and allow just 48.  Kirkwood averages 69 points per game on offense, allowing 67 on defense.


Senior Damien Loyd continues to lead the Pioneers in scoring, averaging 21.2.  Senior Jonah McDowell adds 10.8 for the Pioneers.



Fast Facts

Damien Loyd and Jonah McDowell earned all-tournament honors in the 57th Union Tournament.  Loyd leads the team with 65 assists and 43 steals.


Loyd scored 38 points on Friday evening as the Pioneers came from behind to defeat Summit 73-64 in a non-conference match.   McDowell scored 17 points, all in the second half, thrilling the large home crowd with a rim rattling dunk over a Falcon.


Jonah McDowell and Brad Lay have qualified and will earn MBCA Academic All-State selection this year.


Arvell Ferguson leads the team grabbing 7.1 rebounds per game. Ferguson also leads the team in charges taken, with 7.  Ferguson recently announced he will play football next season at Garden City Community College.


Maurice Massey will play football next season at the University of Missouri.
